Review of 2009

Ben Leslie Thompson’s

Review of 2009

Hello to the 2 people still reading my reviews of the year, Christ I spend way too much time writing this for the number of people who actually read it, but hey, I enjoy making lists! Welcome to my review of the pish that was 2009.

(Before going into this can I make one grand statement…. 2009 was the worst year I’ve had in my life so far… I thought 2008 was bad but Jesus it’s lucky I’m making it out 2009 alive.)

To begin with here were my goals for this year:

Go on holiday, somewhere warm.

- Nope!

Make ‘Dreamer’… my short film masterpiece.

- Yes finally made it, still won’t be finished till Jan/Feb though!

Repay a little debt. Doubt it somehow.

- Nope!

Have a better attitude, be more enthusiastic and generally strive to become a better person and not such a dick.

- Nope!

Get promoted at work.

- I did! Well a pay increase, but then I got made redundant 2 weeks later! 0h well…

See Pearl Jam live.

- Yes, and it was the best gig I’ve ever been to.

Great things about 2009: (this’ll be short)

Cool new flat in Corstorphine, moved out from mouse infested Gorgie.

Pearl Jam @ O2 Arena

Me and Tom’s one day road trip to Download to see a certain band I won’t mention on here.

Worked on HBO fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’.

Worked on some cool shoots – ‘The One Show’ ‘Scotland’s clans’ ‘Soccer AM’ etc

Soccer AM

The shooting of ‘Dreamer’

Dreamer trailer (Out in February 2010)

Chris & Meghan’s wedding.

Rage Against the Machine – Christmas no.1!!!

Signed my first autograph.

Bad things about 2009

People dying.

Being made redundant from a job I liked (well in 2008 I did!).

Hammerhead generally being pretty shit before the redundancy.

Close to bankruptcy/homelessness.

Lucy eating the bedroom carpet resulting in bad times.

Getting old.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

My Favourite 10 films of 2009

Great year for movies, especially sci-fi (except the ones noted under ‘turds’), debated about where to put Avatar as its still fresh, prob drop a number of places on the small screen but the Imax experience was just that… an experience, but if you’re reading this in 6 months, put The Wrestler at number 1)

10 – District 9

09 – Watchmen

08 – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

07 – The Hurt Locker

06 – Moon

05 – Inglourious Basterds
